Band Tour - 2023

As mentioned, we potentially have the opportunity to organise a band tour back to visit our friends in Bavaria in Germany.  Since the Rathaus-Musikanten from ​Wiesenfelden came to Watlington in 2008 and we returned in 2010, we have continued our friendship and over the years have met other musicians in Straubing and Regensburg, which has opened  up opportunities to play concerts in at least three venues.   We would potentially travel on a Thursday and return on Monday/Tuesday, depending on what you would all like to do!

    About You
    Please tell us if you would be interested in coming on the tour.  Who would you like to bring with you?  
    A tour weekend is a hectic experience, and may not be suitable for children.  We will also be limited on numbers as some travel will be on coach.  
    Travel and Accommodation​
    Last time we went, 2 people drove a van with all the instruments and kit.  (We organised insurance). The rest of the band flew from Heathrow to Munich and we arranged a coach from Munich to Wiesenfelden.   This worked very well.  
    Accommodation was with families in Wiesenfelden.  This was obviously a cheaper option than staying in a hotel but a lot of work to organise.  
    What would be your preference?
    Costs
    We would expect that the band will be able to subsidise some aspects of the trip, for example coach costs etc.  This would potentially be funded from the proceeds of concerts and fundraising.  There would also be costs that members would incur.  Group bookings will help us to reduce costs.
    Depending on when we decide to go, flights currently with BA to Munich are approximately £130 return.   We will also discuss how costs can be spread and not be required as a lump sum.    
    Concerts and Excursions
    Having spoken with our friends in Wiesenfelden, we have potential for 3 concerts while we are there. 
    One would be in Wiesenfelden with the Rathaus-Musikanten by the lake.   We also potentially have the opportunity to play in Straubing.  Our friend Mathius is the head teacher at a school in Straubing.  Lastly, we have the opportunity to join with the Regensburg Brass Band for a joint concert.  

    When we are not playing in concerts, we will have an amount of social time.  We will look in more detail at what our opportunities are once we have formed an organising committee.  However, if you have any burning desires you'd like to include now, please let us know.
